How to Reduce Cold

People take different kinds measures to ensure that they do not get colds but end up getting them anyway. Antibiotics have been so far unable to treat viruses completely but one can use other available methods to reduce the symptoms of a cold.

Among the different means of treating colds is use of Echinacea although it is not the favored herb anymore for treating colds. Echinacea can be used to reduce symptoms of the conditions if taken when at the colds onset.

Latest findings in research do not prove that vitamin C, if taken in very large quantities can stem a cold. However if the patient takes in supplements of Vitamin C the colds duration will be reduced.

Patients should be advised not to take vitamin C in very large quantities in the hope that it will reduce their cold; it will just wash down their system. Among the best means of curbing colds is the use of elderberries which have been around for generations. The berries can stop influenza from growing as well.

Chicken soup has been a well known cold reliever for many years and it is advisable for patients to take it as soon as they get cold symptoms. When making chicken soup one should include leek, celery, onions and garlic.

Latest research has it that garlic can have a hand in the reduction of pain as well. The chicken soups should always be kept on hand to be used anytime by freezing it once it has been made.

Andrographis provides another means for reducing the symptoms associated with colds. Patients immunity can be stimulated by Andrographis as well. The ability of reducing fever with no stomach upsets is among the qualities that are unique to this agent.

Astragalus also offers another option and the the Chinese have been using it for many years. The herb is known to contain immunity building and pathogen fighting abilities. The patient can take the herd on a daily basis or as soon as they experience any symptoms.

If one wants to reduce a cold they can take supplements with then ability to stop virus growth when there is a cold outbreak. One should take supplements like Zinc of 50 to 100mg, L-lysine of 500 to1000mg (an amino acid) as well as antioxidants vitamins.

One should also not have stress and try to get the needed rest. Healthy eating also comes in handy when counteracting a cold.
