Why The Kinesio Taping Method Is Gaining Accolades All Over The World

By Bart Icles

People who engage in strenuous activities, especially athletes, almost all the time need something to ensure that whenever they strain or overextend their muscles to the point of having muscular injuries, they have a quick solution to relieving them of their pain and misery. Athletic tapes are a quick fix to their problem, but then, are they, really?

To be able to gauge whether standard athletic taping methods really work, here are some facts about them:

1. They are generally used with gauze. They are applied over it and form a stiff and inflexible bandage. Their purpose is to support the injured portion.

2. The application of standard taping methods is found to hinder movements.

3. Standard taping methods also affects the circulation of the body.

They are said to support the injured muscles and the like, but hindering movements and affecting the circulation are the big disadvantages that they pose.

It's a good thing that another taping method was developed that does not exhibit the negative side effects of the standard taping methods that are out in the market today. The kinesio taping method is the athletic taping method that I am referring to. Invented by Dr. Kenzo Kase, a Japanese chiropractor, in 1973, it has gained popularity in the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics when the Kinesio Holding Corporation donated them for the use of the Olympians who vied for the gold in the respective events that they are competing in. Among the popular athletes who have used the kinesio taping method and are loving the myriads of benefits that it exhibits are Kerri Walsh, Lance Armstrong, Tiger Woods, David Beckham, Germaine Mason, Hrisopiyi Devetzi, Fernando Gonzalez, Paulo Villar, Wallace Spearmon, Alex Mumbru, Nikola Janovic, and Josefa Idem, to name a few.

Here are the reasons why a lot of people prefer the kinesio taping method over other standard athletic taping methods that are out there today:

1. They support injured areas effectively by preventing over-contraction.

2. Stretching the kinesio tape when applied on the target area enables the creation of space under the skin in order to work more effectively because it promotes circulation and the effective drainage of the lymphatic system.

3. It relieves pain by targeting the source of the pain.

4. It promotes movement instead of inhibiting it.

5. It promotes circulation.

To be able to apply the kinesio taping method the right way, seminars and books dedicated solely to it are available online, in the bookstores, and in medical facilities that are dedicated to rehabilitation and therapy.
