8. Over The Counter Dangerous?

By Cody Scholberg

There has been some recent controversy about over the counter teeth-whitening products. This is due to poor experiences that some people have had. This is mainly contributed to a very small percentage of people who will always have problems with any dental product. For this reason, it has been suggested that everyone receives a simple exam before being prescribed a product. This does not mean that they are not affected or safe. This simply means that some of these people spend so much money fixing their teeth that this needs to be avoided.

What Problems Could There Be?

Anything you buy over the counter is going to have less of an active ingredient then something from the dental office. Many intelligent people will assume that you simply need to increase the dose. However, nothing is further from the truth. Should always follow directions carefully. No one wants to spend $10.00 on a product and then turn around and spend thousands of dollars in oral surgery so that you don't lose your teeth. All of the packages that you find on the market will have very specific instructions. You can always be sure that you will have the fewest problems if you follow the directions carefully.

Precautions

Our government does its best protect its citizens. If there is an FDA warning, you should follow it. After all, they are talking about tests that they have actually done over a period of time. Most people will find that they have no problems using an over the counter teeth-whitening product. However, if there is no FDA approval, how can you know what you're doing is right? The FDA is considering taking teeth-whitening products off the market for cosmetic use. This is because many people do not follow the directions and then go to the denist and complain. Simply put, teeth-whitening products can have dangerous side effects.

Serious Side Effects

Serious problems can be caused by an individual that use a product incorrectly. Certain medications can cause temporary problems with your teeth. If you use and over the counter medications such as Teeth-Whitening, this can cause a chain reaction. This chain reaction is a serious problem and can result in you losing your teeth. Just because you want to have white teeth does not mean you should throw all caution to the wind. Always be on the lookout for any bleeding or to its sensitivity when eating foods. Of course, all problems can be avoided by consulting with your family dentist first.
