Tips to Ace Your College Exams

By Ellen Rhodes

If you would like to get high grades regularly, you are not alone. Everybody would like to get aces on all their exams, but few students manage to do it. The successful ones do not have great secrets up their sleeves, but are able to work in a systematic way that brings them good results, time and again. If you would like to learn how to work in a methodical way that will bring you academic success in Choosing a college, then pay attention to the tips provided in this article.

The first tip on the road to high grades is simply to keep up with your reading on a regular basis. That is, read the assigned texts as soon as you get the assignment rather than waiting till the last minute to cram in all the information. Many students don't keep up with the homework assignments and hastily read, or skim through, the books in the last few days before the test. This approach is good in theory but not in practice, so to be sure of absorbing the important material, keep up to date with your reading assignments.

The next step is to attend the classes yourself and take good notes. Once again it may be theoretically possible for you to just copy the notes of someone else who has attended all of the lectures, but if you do it yourself you will be able to understand the context in which the notes were taken and will be in a better position to do well on the exams.

The next tip for getting high grades is to always find out what will be covered on any given examination. Your instructor or teachers will not give you the answers or questions in advance but they will at least let you know what you have to study in order to be able to answer the test questions. Find out which reading assignments will be included within the scope of the test and any other information that they can provide. Armed with this information, go ahead and study for the test.

If you have been diligent in doing your reading assignments, have taken good notes and have a good idea on what the test will be all about, then the next step will be easy. Review all the material two times or more before the test. Go through your class notes and skim through the books and other reading material. Use all of your available time to study and then be sure to get a good night's sleep.

The last step is simply to show up for the exam alert, well rested and with a positive attitude. If you enter the exam with a clear mind and work confidently then you will more likely be able to follow the instructions of the exam properly and avoid procedural mistakes that could be costly to you. When you take your exam, make sure that you understand exactly what you have to do, and if you have any doubts, then ask the instructor.

Getting high marks on a consistent basis is not as hard as it looks. If you follow the simple tips that I have outlined in this article you will be well on your way to "ace" your next exam.
