Understanding Essential Yoga Postures, Exercises, And Poses

Before you start yoga it is essential to have a little understanding about what types of yoga postures and exercises exist and what they will do to your body. Choosing yoga can never be a mistake; there are good reasons why millions of people around the world do yoga everyday. There are immense mental and physical health benefits that can be had.

Yoga is a very extensive discipline; there are quite literally hundreds of postures and exercises to choose from, different people prefer different postures. Before you begin it is important to take advice from somebody with experience. It can be better for you if you are just beginning to attend yoga classes as opposed to doing the exercises alone; you will then get a deeper understanding.

This article will mention a variety of poses that have been compiled to give you an overall feel for yoga. They are perhaps not the most widely used but they do cover all levels and body systems.

1. Kundalini Grind: This is an essential yoga exercise, all practitioners should use it. It can develop the digestive and elimination systems and will strengthen your spine and back muscles. It is good to use this posture at the beginning of a workout.

2. Kundalini Rowing: This particular exercise can be undertaken to strengthen your hamstrings and free up the hips. It is also useful for enhancing the abs and shoulders.

3. Yoga Forward Bend (Pashimothan Asana): This is a very common yoga posture. It is perhaps the most important Hatha yoga pose. When doing this exercise you will be stretching your full back and all the associated muscles and ligaments. It is often said that it can promote spontaneous well being and a long healthy life.

4. Abs Stretch Posture: If you want to improve your abs then this is the posture for you. It is used by experts and beginners alike. It will also work on your Navel Chakra and can improve willpower and energy.

5. Dhanur Asana: Another name for this posture is the Bow Pose. It works on developing your legs, spine, shoulders, digestive system, respiratory system and the overall flexibility of the body. It will help to keep you feeling and looking young.

6. Plough Pose: This is not the easiest of postures but it can be altered to suit a beginner. It massages and places pressure on certain body points and chakras. These include the Sex Chakra, Navel Chakra, and Anahata Chakra as well as the corresponding body organs.

7. Kundalini Archer Pose: This is an excellent yoga posture. By using this you can expand various systems in your body including your lung capacity and nervous system. It will also develop your self esteem and confidence. Correct breathing is essential when doing the archer pose so that you can reap the maximum benefits.

Whether you choose to use these yoga postures or would rather a different selection is down to you. It depends upon your desires and aims. It may help to discuss with an expert about what you would like to achieve.
