An Introduction To Funeral Services

By Aris Ford

The death of a loved one is a harrowing experience, and preparing for their funeral can be very painful. However, you have to admit the loss that you have met with and be prepared for making proper funeral service arrangements for the deceased. Almost all funeral homes provide their professional services related to making preparations for the funeral and they can provide you assistance, but you must keep in mind a few things.

The dead person's life and beliefs are reflected in the funeral and therefore, it is necessary to conduct it properly. Most of the funeral services follow a set pattern, though they are flexible enough to accommodate any cultural preferences that the deceased may have had or his family believes in.

The very first phase of a funeral service can range from a couple of hours to several days and it is called visitation. Here, the dead person is remembered by his family and friends. This is followed by the formal funeral service, which can be arranged inside the chapel of the mortuary, or a church of your choice, or even at any other site which was special to the deceased. You will also have to book a funeral coach or hearse to bear the body, if the funeral is to take place at an outdoor spot.

Once this is over, the family and relatives move to the cemetery for the next stage of the funeral. This can be handled by the clergy or any close relative of the deceased, based on the family's choice. Certain issues need to be taken care of at this stage including the person who will lead the service, if some favourite items of the deceased will be exhibited, and the type of flowers to be used.

The last part of the proceedings is the burial of the body in a location, which is normally based on the type of tradition that the family has. The burial can take place on a family plot or a graveyard, or if the dead person had wished for a cremation, the ashes can be spread at a proper location.
